'"Don’t Play In The Sun": How Resisting Colorism In The Outdoors Begins Inside' with Dr. Sarah Webb
Colorism, as defined by Dr. Webb, is the social marginalization and systemic oppression of people with darker skin tones and the privileging of people with lighter skin tones.
On September 10, 2021, Diversify Outdoors had the pleasure of hosting Dr. Sarah Webb as a guest speaker for our members. Her presentation on fighting colorism in the outdoors covers intersectionality within colorism, the four layers of colorism, implicit bias, representation, and much more. Colorism and color privilege are present in all countries, cultures, and communities, and being aware of colorism is the first step in combatting it.
Educate yourself and learn different ways you can push back against colorism by taking a look at Dr. Webb’s presentation. Dr. Webb takes the time to answer important questions at the end, so be sure to watch the entire video below.
