The Culture
The best thing about working at Women Who Hike is: Getting to connect with women who hike all over the world. Through social media, our Facebook groups, and group hikes we’re not only connecting with each other but helping others connect with one another too. As we grow and continue to grow we want to work harder at our outreach, allyships and DEI work, making sure that women and womxn know that they’re welcome to be a part of our community, @womenwhohike.
When we’re not working, we’re: On the trail.
What we’re reading: Tools For Grassroots Activists, Dispossessing The Wilderness, The Untethered Soul
What we’re listening to: everything from pop and folk to classic rock and glam rock
If they made a movie about our workplace, it would be called: Women Who Hike
Inclusion in the outdoors matters because: For a long time now we have been calling ourselves a community. We started out very white, and to a large degree we still are. In order for us to really empower, learn and grow from each other, we must make room and invite others in. That is what we are striving to do as we continue to grow, and as we go forward as a real community. We know that much of this work is done from the inside, but we also realize that that work needs to show itself from the inside out.
Five years down the line, it’s our hope that: Our group hikes are more diverse. While our hashtag reaches far and wide, I hope that more women and womxn come join us on the trail. And if not us, we just hope more women and womxn find each other on the trail with other groups we look to and look up to like @unlikelyhikers, @brownpeoplecamping, @nativewomenswilderness and @outdoorjournaltour.
